What Barry says
Asked by Ted Panken whether he was playing for singers in his Detroit-area club years, Barry says he did once, with Nancy Wilson at Baker’s. He can date it only because she was pregnant then, and calls her the most beautiful pregnant woman he ever saw.
In the Spirit of Bebop film, recalling the visiting stars he backed in Detroit, Barry names Prez and Flip Phillips and says he accompanied Nancy Wilson for a week; he accompanied quite a few such people, he adds.

In his own words
I played with Nancy Wilson at Baker’s. The only way to be able to tell what year that was is because Nancy Wilson was pregnant.
I accompanied Flip Phillips, I accompanied Nancy Wilson for a week. You know, people like that... I accompanied quite a few.

Barry says the only time he played for a singer in that period was with Nancy Wilson at Baker’s, and that her pregnancy is his one clue to the year.
In Panken’s account, after a few months on the road with Max Roach in 1956, Barry spent the rest of the decade in Detroit, backing touring stars for a week at a time at clubs such as Baker’s Keyboard Lounge; Wilson is named with Lester Young and Flip Phillips.
