What Barry says
Asked whether he got to play with legendary drummers such as Kenny Clarke or Tiny Kahn, Barry says he never had the chance to play with Clarke but did play with Kahn. He does not say where or when.
Interview: Detroit, Bud Powell and the shuffle7:25
When the interviewer follows up about how those drummers feathered the bass drum, Barry does not describe Kahn’s playing in particular. He says those players could really play and turns to a record by Mel Powell and a drummer, with no bass, where the drummer keeps four beats with his foot.
In his own words
I didn’t get a chance to play with Kenny Clark[e], but I played with Tiny [Kahn].
