Tunes he taught

Strictly Confidential

Bud Powell’s Strictly Confidential turns up in Barry’s teaching only in small pieces: an excerpt in the rhythm-section chapter of his second workshop video, a one-line class remark, probably his, about the last chord on the record, and a 2016 masterclass in Rome where he played and sang it. No class where he works through the tune was found.

What he teaches through it

The workbook contents of his second workshop video list an excerpt of Strictly Confidential in the rhythm-section chapter, straight after transcriptions of his voicings on the blues and on rhythm changes and an excerpt of Bud’s The Fruit. Only the contents list was available, so what he shows with the excerpt is not known.
