What Barry says

On the radio in 1988, after the Jazz Cultural Theater had lost its home, Barry complains that stars turn up at discos but seldom at small jazz rooms. In five years at his place, he says, the only one who really came to support it was Lionel Hampton.

Right after naming Hampton, Barry makes clear that his complaint is not about musicians but about entertainment stars such as Eddie Murphy, and he goes on to praise Clint Eastwood as the one actor who really loves jazz.

In his own words

Out of five years being in a jazz cultural theater, a nice little place, very seldom did I have one of those stars. The only person that really came to sort of support that place was Lionel Hampton.
