Tunes he taught

Out of Nowhere

Barry’s one captioned class moment on Out of Nowhere is a short Hague clip in which he uses the tune to teach the tritone: while he plays E7, the student plays F minor, taken from B♭7, the tritone of E7.

What he teaches through it

Learn about the tritone. On Out of Nowhere Barry showed it against a dominant: the tritone of E7 is B♭7, and F minor goes with B♭7, so the student can play F minor while the piano holds E7. He pointed out how pretty the result sounds.
